MEET THE ARTIST, BEVERLEY LU STEEVES

I discovered art at a time I needed it most.

As a teenager facing bullying and depression, one day I found myself changing the TV channel to PBS. I immediately heard this lively voice and viewed large brushes creating a serene landscape. It was Bill Alexander, painting a peaceful scene within 30 minutes. For the first time in a long time, I felt peace. That single moment shifted something inside me. I turned to my father and asked if we could buy some art supplies. He said yes—and I haven’t stopped painting since.

Four years later, someone asked if I taught art. I didn’t, but the idea stayed with me. A year later, I began teaching others the same creative refuge I found for myself. I've been teaching ever since.

My work is rooted in animals (pets & wildlife) and nature (landscapes & seascapes, many with a sunset or sunrise that capture light and stillness). Living in New Brunswick, Canada, I spend countless hours observing and photographing animals in their natural habitat. These quiet moments with nature guide my vision, and my paintings aim to reflect the emotional bond between us and the earth.

Though I began with oils, I began experimenting with acrylics in 2021, opening a new chapter of creative exploration. What never changed was my purpose: to paint not just what I see, but what I feel—a sense of serenity, beauty, and hope.

When people collect my art, I want them to feel that same peace I once felt watching Bill Alexander—that powerful stillness when the noise of the world fades. I want my paintings to bring beauty into your space, to remind you that even in a chaotic world, there is still hope, peace, and inspiration for us all if we just let ourselves "see" beyond the noise.
