I painted this Puffin larger that its actual size in real life.
There was a reason for this.
The Atlantic Puffin is under a foot in size, weighs just under a pound, but it packs a punch in skills.
 
Did you know?
-They fly through the air at up to 58mph (93km/h).
-They dive into frigid water to depths of more than 130 feet.
-They can flap their wings up to 600 times per minute.
-They can catch and carry 10-20 fish in their mouth all at the same time.
-They mate for life and touch beaks when they reunite.
-They can live up to 40 years.
 
Fun Fact:  Their beaks can glow under UV light! Scientists discovered back in 2018, that the yellow ridges light up in fluorescent colors when placed under UV light.
 
When I started this painting, I didn't know all the info above, but it was a great journey getting to know more about these birds with information I found and painting him/her on my canvas.
