I have come to love the abstract backgrounds I do with my pet portraits, so I decided I would do a variation of this type of background with this owl.  The reference photo for this painting was my own photo I took a few years ago when we got to see a couple of snowy owls in their natural habitat in the wild. It was an amazing experience.
 
Snowy owls are often seen as quiet messengers that can bring comfort during times of difficulty. Some say an encounter from a snowy owl is often a sign that the difficult season is ending, and encouraging you to stay still, listen, and prepare for a peaceful new start. They are also a symbol of wisdom and  endurance. Because they live and breed in the Arctic tundra, they represent resilience and the ability to navigate life's most challenging periods with strength and grace. 
 
Seeing a snowy owl in person is not an every day occurrence. On occasion, we do have them travel to our province of New Brunswick.  But if you do get to see one, it will leave a lasting impression.
